Why is She Shed Cairns membership based and not open to everyone?
She Shed Cairns is a not for profit organisation designed as a safe, supportive space for women. By having a membership system, we can:
- Manage numbers so the Shed doesn’t become overcrowded
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all members
- Ensure everyone is covered by our insurance while at the Shed
- Keep the space sustainable by covering running costs through membership fees
Our goal is to give our members the time, space, and resources to connect, learn, and create and a membership structure helps us protect that experience.
How do I join She Shed Cairns?
Membership is currently full due to high demand, but you can join our waitlist by emailing membership@sheshedcairns.com.au. We will contact you as soon as a spot becomes available.
Is there a minimum age to join?
Yes, members must be female and aged 16 or older.
Do I need to be a member to attend She Shed Cairns
Yes, currently our workshops and access to the Shed are for members only.
As a brand-new organisation, we are gradually growing and must carefully manage numbers for safety, comfort, and volunteer capacity.
What does membership cost and what’s included?
Annual membership is $120, plus $10 for a custom name badge.
Membership includes:
- Access to workshops and classes
- Use of our extensive equipment and supplies (once inducted)
- Tea/coffee and biscuits while at the Shed
- Insurance coverage while you’re participating at the Shed
- Discounts from partnered craft suppliers
- A personalised name badge
- Access to our private members’ Facebook group
What equipment and facilities are available to members?
We currently offer:
- Industrial sewing machine, standard sewing machine & overlocker
- Cricut machine and laptop with internet
- Mosaic tools and beading supplies
- Ceramic painting tools & kiln
- Acrylic and watercolour painting supplies with easels
- Woodworking tools (with induction)
- Paper craft materials, jewellery-making tools
- Comfortable seating, kitchen facilities, and air-conditioning
Is membership currently open?
At this time, our membership is full. We are operating with a capped capacity to meet council requirements and manage the space effectively. If you would like to join, please email membership@sheshedcairns.com.au to be added to our waitlist.
Can non-members attend workshops?
At this stage, workshops are only open to members.
We’re exploring future options to involve more women through public events or programs.
Is the She Shed Cairns accessible for people with disabilities?
Yes.
We are currently in the process of installing a disabled ramp and handrails to improve accessibility. Our space is air-conditioned, single-level, and designed to be as inclusive as possible.
Is there parking available?
Yes, thanks to the support of Cairns Regional Council, we now have on-site parking available for members.
How can I volunteer?
We welcome volunteers! Roles include workshop support, administration, cleaning, and general help around the Shed. You can email volunteer@sheshedcairns.com.au to express your interest.
Do volunteers need a Blue Card?
Yes, all volunteers working in duty manager roles or around vulnerable persons will need to apply for a Blue Card. We can assist you with linking to our organisation.
How do I join the members-only Facebook group?
Once your membership is confirmed, you’ll be emailed a link to our private group. An admin will approve your request once verified.
I’ve joined but haven’t received any emails—what do I do?
Please check your junk or spam folder for emails from us. If you still haven’t received anything, email membership@sheshedcairns.com.au and we will assist you.
What is the She Shed Cairns Fair Use Policy?
Our Fair Use Policy ensures all members have equal and respectful access to the Shed’s resources, space, and workshops. As a shared community space, we rely on everyone to be considerate of others.
What happens if I book a daily session but don’t show up?
If you can’t make a session, please cancel as early as possible. Repeated no-shows or late cancellations may result in temporary suspension of your booking privileges.
We often have a waitlist, so please be respectful of others who are keen to attend.
Can I store my personal projects or materials at the Shed?
No.
At this time, we do not offer long-term storage for personal items.
Please take all materials home with you unless specific arrangements have been made with a duty manager.
Are there limits on how much equipment or materials I can use?
We ask all members to use only what they need and to be mindful that materials are shared.
Please follow posted guidelines for equipment use and ensure items are cleaned and returned properly.
What if someone is being disruptive or disrespectful?
She Shed Cairns is a welcoming and safe space for all women.
Disruptive, unsafe, or disrespectful behaviour may result in suspension or cancellation of membership.
If you experience any issues, please speak to a duty manager or contact our committee.
Can I bring my dog to She Shed Cairns?
No, we do not allow pets on-site.
The only exception is for registered assistance or service dogs, which are always welcome.
This is to ensure the comfort and safety of all members, especially those with allergies or sensitivities.
Can support workers attend with a participant?
Yes – we welcome female support workers to accompany members or participants who require assistance.
Due to the nature of our space being a women-only environment, male support workers are not permitted on-site.
We appreciate your understanding and recommend arranging for a female worker where support is required.
Can I bring a friend or guest with me to She Shed Cairns?
Yes, with prior approval.
Guests are welcome to attend She Shed Cairns subject to space availability on the day and prior approval from the Coordinator or Duty Manager.
The guest must be accompanied and supervised by the member at all times, and the member is responsible for showing them around and ensuring they follow She Shed guidelines.
If your guest enjoys their visit and is interested in joining, we would be happy to add them to our waitlist.
Can I bring my child or grandchild with me?
No, She Shed is a child free environment.
This allows members to relax, connect, and focus on creative time.
Members must be 16 years or older.
How will I know what’s happening each week?
We share regular updates via:
- Member emails (check your junk folder too!)
- Our private members-only Facebook group
- Notices posted on-site

Can I take photos in the Shed?
Please ask before taking or sharing photos of other members or their work. We encourage creativity and sharing, but also respect members’ privacy.
